New Investigator Guide to the NIH Grant Process, Training Programs, and Funding Opportunities
Program Directors representing the NIH Pain Consortium will present an overview of the NIH grant application, review, and funding processes. They will provide guidance on selection of training and career development programs. Information on current funding opportunities to support pain research will be provided. A recipient of a first time NIH award will share her experience. The session will begin with a presentation by Dr. Thomas in which he follows a grant application from its conception through submission, review, and award. Do's and don'ts for applicants will be emphasized. Dr. Kusiak will share hints on successful grant writing, describe how reviewers respond to applications, what they expect of a new applicant, and what pitfalls to avoid. Dr. Mann Koepke will review current training and career development programs at NIH and guide audience members to programs appropriate for their career stage. Dr. Porter will provide information on current NIH funding opportunities in pain research. NIH funded training programs for pain researchers and solicitations for specific basic and clinical research projects will be reviewed. Dr. Laura Stone will describe her road to success in the grant process. Question and answer sessions will follow. Contact information for NIH staff will be available.
